BALLANTYNE: Grace Norine (neé Beckler) of Exeter and formerly of London

Peacefully on November 8, 2015 at Exeter Villa, in Exeter.  Grace was born on the 18th of October 1922 in Usborne Township, Huron County, Ontario.  Her parents were Moses Beckler and Verda Grace Hill.  Grace grew up in Usborne Township on the family farm with her parents and brother Cal. She attended public school in Usborne Township and high school in Exeter.  Grace married William Mackenzie Ballantyne, a native of Usborne Township on the 19th of August 1944. Grace was first a school teacher and later a bookkeeper. Grace and Bill lived their married life in London where Bill ran an accounting business. In later years they retired to Exeter. Grace loved to work in her garden at home and at her cottage near St. Joseph.  She also enjoyed playing the piano, a round of golf or a game of cards with her friends. Grace will be sorely missed by her nephew Bruce Beckler and her nieces Leigh Mick and Linda Ballantyne. Grace was predeceased by her husband William Ballantyne in 1988 and by her sister in law Elizabeth Beckler in 2014 and by her brother Calvert Laverne Beckler in 2014.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Exeter Villa Long Term Care Home in Exeter for the kindness shown to Grace during the last years of her life.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.

As an expression of sympathy donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Exeter Villa.

To Grace’s family,

Sincere condolences to all of you.

Grace was a great lady and a wonderful friend to our Mother, Hedy Devine. She was more than a friend, like a sister to our Mom. Grace enjoyed times with our families and we very much enjoyed having her.

Sincerely,
Elaine and Bill Vandeworp,
Yvonne and Howard Hendrick and our families.

Cousin Grace was a wonderful lady and friend – gracious, kind, humorous, hardworking and thoughtful. Due to an unfortunate illness in her last years, many of these personal qualities were no longer evident, but they remain vivid in my memory. She and Bill were always attentive to my parents – her Uncle Francis and Aunt Bessie – and we enjoyed many, many visits with them on their farm and later in London and Exeter. We are so.saddend by her passing.

I dealt with Grace for many years at the bank. A bookkeper! No wonder she was so incredibly organized. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the sweetest lady’s in Exeter & she lived a good, long, healthy life. It is what we all hope for. Rest in peace Grace Ballantyne.
