Harvey was my neighbour. He played the piano beautifully. It was a pleasure to hear his music when walking with my dogs past his home. He was shy and kind whenever we spoke. My condolences.

Condolence from Mark Bettridge on July 4th, 2017 3:10 PM

So sorry to hear of Harvey’s passing. He was a close friend at Western back in the 1970’s and we became guitar playing buddies when he taught me to play back in 1979. Use to play guitar in his dad’s basement in London. Harvey lived at my lace in London for a few months in 1983. Lost touch after I married in 1986. I asked after him through a mutual acquaintance at my dad’s funeral in 2005. I hope they passed on my hello to him. Again, I am sorry to hear of Harvey’s passing. Mark Bettridge

I left a condolence message earlier but I’m not sure if it showed up here. I met Harvey at Western, although I lived on Hibernia St in Stratford. I was a few years younger. Harvey and I became friends and he taught me how to play guitar. We played chess and jammed at his dad’s house and my Apt. and Harvey’s place. We lost track over the years. So sorry for your loss. I asked s mutual friend to say hi for me back in 2005 at my dad’s funeral. I hope he did. Again, sorry for your loss. Mark Bettridge

Harvey was introduced to me by a fellow named Dava( not sure if that’s the proper spelling) in the 90s he was a great classical pianist and he couldn’t get the Blues and it bothered him a lot when somebody like me with no formal training at all could sit down after a week on a piano and play the blues.Dava, who is a very talented jazz pianist tried to teach him but he said the man just couldn’t get it. I’ve thought about Harvey lot lately, and I only found out about his death because I looked him up online. He was a real Joker with the mind of a genius and I will miss being able to talk to him.

Condolence from Howard Brown on October 28th, 2017 12:03 PM

Dear Ellen,

I was so saddened to hear of Harvey’s passing. As you may recall, I lived up the street from you on Hibernia. I considered Harvey my best childhood friend. I have so many memories of our early days spent playing on the street, cooking hot dogs in your fireplace while watching Saturday night hockey, as well as summer days spent at your cottage in Grand Bend. Your mother taught Harvey and I to play bridge and canasta before we turned eleven. These and many more memories are deeply embedded in my mind as some of the best times of the nineteen years that I spent in Stratford.

Unfortunately, Harvey and I drifted apart after public school and we never crossed paths again after high school. Many times throughout my life I have thought of Harvey and wondered what he was doing. This is certainly a sad way to find out. Just yesterday I was in Stratford with some old friends and we drove down Hibernia Street. As we were passing your house, Bill Reid who went through Avon Public School with Harvey and I, mentioned that he had heard of Harvey’s passing. I could not believe it until I found his obituary on the internet.

Ellen, if there is anything that you might like to share with me about Harvey’s life, I would be pleased to hear from you. I can be reached by email at hbrown1190@gmail.com or by phone at 905-512-7088.

I am sorry for your loss and hope that you are well,
Howard Brown

Ellen, I was unable to attend the funeral service for Harvey in September. My email is bettridge171@rogers.com. I would love to talk to you. I met you once in London in the 1980’s with Harvey. We were very good friends back then. We live outside Barrie now, but do get to London on occasion. So sorry for your loss. I am still shook up over the news of Harvey’s passing. May he rest in peace. ❤
