ANKERS: Janet (Smith) of Lucan

Suddenly, but peacefully with family by her side at LHSC – Victoria Hospital on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the age of 71. Beloved wife and soul mate of the late Brian “Spanky” Ankers (2015). Amazing and loving mother of Brad and Tina of Exeter, Mike and Ashley and Jenn and Mo all of Lucan. Proud Grammie of Kara (Dylan), Dannika (Justin), Hailie, Darlene, Madison, Tyler, and Charlie. Proud GG of Lilliana “Lillypad”. Dear sister of Jean Hickson, Linda Snider, Marilyn Carter, Pat and John Ward, Grace and Bob Lassaline, Dave and Linda Smith, Sheila and Brian Dinney, Doug and Noreen Smith, and Sherrie and Andy Ross and sister-in-law of Linda Thompson. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by her parents Leonard and Doreen (Campbell) Smith, parents-in-law Donald and Betty Ankers, brothers-in-law Terry Hickson and Dave Gardiner, nephew Caleb Lassaline, great-nephew Nicholas Smith, and 2nd Ave neighbour Darcey MacKay. Dearly missed by her 2nd Ave family at Ruston Family Campground.

Janet spent many years working at FM96 with Corus Entertainment as a radio programmer, a role she truly enjoyed. For more than 40 summers, she could be found at the trailer, where she formed countless friendships and meaningful connections. An avid bowler, Janet looked forward to Monday nights at Lucan Lanes with her ladies’ bowling league. Above all else, family was always at the heart of Janet’s life and meant more to her than anything.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan on Friday evening from 5 – 9 PM.

Janet’s funeral service will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter on Saturday, December 20th at 11 AM. Cremation to follow with a private family interment St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye at a later date.

Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh

Donations to the Nicholas Smith Memorial Foundation or for an additional Defibrillator for the Lucan Community Centre (cash or cheques payable to: Township of Lucan Biddulph) would be appreciated by the family.
