Ken’s last words shared to all of his family and friends hours before he passed away…
“NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, SEE YOU AT HOME.”
A lot of people think that living as a couple is always peachy, but this is not the reality. Living with the person you love is not what everyone thinks it is. You don’t wake up early in the morning for breakfast together in bed every morning. It’s not snuggling in bed together until you sleep peacefully every night. It’s not always having the house clean and food freshly made every day.
Living with the person you love is arguing for simple things, like who forgot to takeout the trash, it’s sleeping because the day has been hard and you’re exhausted, it’s arguing over financial issues, its someone who takes you bed sheets away when you sleep and you wake up in the cold.
But despite everything, every day you expect to see that person eagerly or go home everyday to meet that same person you know loves you and cares about you. You laugh together the moment you do something funny, its intimacy with each other, its cooking dinner together as you talk and making it easier because you both had a complicated day.
It’s living an emotional crisis and having someone who sits next to you, hugs you and tells you that everything will be fine and you believe it.
It is loving that same person even when it drives you crazy and pulls you out of your box. Living with the person you love is arguing for silly things constantly, but it’s also having a love that many people spend their lives looking for. It’s the times that people try to break you up, but the love was stronger. It’s not perfect and it’s very difficult to keep it balanced every day, but it’s wonderful and the best you can experience, because if it were easy it wouldn’t be worth it.
That’s why every day you think… “NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS SEE YOU AT HOME.”
“Nuair Sinn Coinnich Arichus” (Til We Meet Again)

Christine, Lindsay, Barry, Kenney, Ashley, Lisa & Aaron & All Ken’s Loved Ones:
Larry & I are still in shock after hearing of Ken’s sudden passing. When our granddaughter married Kenney you became her second family and she loved you all especially the bearded Mr. Allen. Being a truck driver, Larry & Ken always had lots to talk about. The obituary was done so well and compacted his life in a few paragraphs. Our granddaughter, Ashley, is going to miss him dearly but she will be there for you Christine, whenever you need her. Kenney we feel your pain but if you ever need to talk Gram (with a capital “H”) is always here to listen You are an awesome Grandson and your Dad knew all your values.
My deepest condolences to Christine and family during this difficult time.
Christine may all your memories shared over the years be the wind to lift you during this time. God Bless Marci T

Dear Christine and family, our deepest condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. Although our work took us in different directions and we drifted apart Ken left a lasting impression on me, only just weeks ago I thought I should give him a call, I should have. He was truly a good friend, his sincerity and humor can’t be overstated, I feel honored to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family
That’s the most beautiful obituary I’ve ever read. It really resignated with my own marriage and “home” will always be Richmond st south for me but also we are all only here for a moment until we can reunite with our eternal peaceful real home with all of our loved ones we so deeply miss. My love to the Allen family see you when we get home Ken!

I am so sorry to hear this. I worked with Ken at Hensall until January of 2015. Ken was one of the most friendly, cheerful, well meaning people I have met. He will be missed dearly, RIP Ken.

Christine, Lindsay, Kenny and family members,
I was saddened to hear of your great loss. Words won’t make the pain go away, but I hope you will find comfort knowing Ken will live on in the hearts and memories of all those whose lives he touched. I can hear his laugh and thinking back to the hours spent around the kitchen table, yours or ours, there was always a great story. I remember how he had such a fear of flying, but once he found the strength to take the trip, he loved it. We were lucky to have had you as neighbours.

Dear Christine, Lindsay & Kenny
The blessing is ours to have the Allen Family as neighbours. Ken was very much a “one of a kind” man who could talk with anybody & make you feel like you’ve known each other all your lives. Many conversations started with small talk & turned out for an enjoyable fun discussion on everything from family, dogs, his backyard. There was always humour & joking. Ken had the kindest heart & best personality, he will be missed.
Christine, Lindsay, Kenny & families; We are still in disbelief since hearing of Ken’s passing. Our deepest and sincerest condolences to you all during this most difficult time. Such an amazing, kind and loving man – gone far too soon. Rest in peace dear friend!

I used to go to Kens house a lot to watch movies. I don’t really have any memory of these movies; I couldn’t even tell you if the sound or tv was on. What I do know is that I’ve seen all the Austin Powers movies start to finish about 100 times entirely in the Ken and Ken re-enactment routine. Ken will be very sorely missed as a man who could bring joy to any day, could bail you out of a boring dinner at home with an amazing meal, and give anyone an ear or advice. I’m so sorry for your loss Ken, Chris, and Lindsay and countless others who lost this close friend, neighbour, and family member.
I had the pleasure of working with Ken for many years at Hensall. Ken always made a point of saying hello and had a special way of brightening the day with cheery discussion. My sincere condolences.
We are so deeply sorry for you all, at this very difficult time. Ken taught so many to love everyday and we all knew how much he truly loved his family! Sending huge hugs and lot’s of love!

Dear Christine and family,
I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Ken. Most of my dealings with Ken revolved around watching hockey games. I often went with Dad (Rob Lavender) and Ken to watch Ken Jr’s hockey games when he played for the Bancroft Blackhawks. I remember on the drives to the games, Dad and Kenny were always laughing about something. Although I only knew Kenny through those hockey moments, he was a man that left a lasting impression on you. Always full of jokes, and very sincere. I still have that Bancroft Blackhawks sweater he bought me at the one game and still wear it to this day. I will make sure I wear it this weekend especially in his honor. Thinking about your family during this time.
Dearest Chistine Lindsay and Kenny …..it seems like only yesterday Ken was an altar boy at our wedding.
I came across this reflection I would like to share with you and in the mean time may his memories be your blessing.
Peter And Jill Allen…….
I have only slipped away
Into the next room.
I am I, And you are you.
And the old life we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other,
That we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way
Which you always used to.
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh, As we always laughed,
At the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile,
Think of me,
And pray for me.
Let my name be ever
The household word
That it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort,
Without a trace of shadow on it.
Life,
Means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was;
There is no unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind, because
I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you,
For an interval,
Somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.
(By Henry Scott Holland, 1847-1918. Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral, London).

I was very sad to hear about the passing of Mr. Allen. Although I did not know him well, every interaction I did have with him was always extremely positive.
Mr. Allen’s legacy lives on through his family, I can see the impact he had on Kenny and Lindsay. He had an incredible family, and I know Kenny’s fun loving personality and positive outlook on life comes from his parents, and a huge portion of that must have been because of his incredible father.
Thinking of all of you during this difficult time, sending my thoughts and prayers to all of you.
Christine and family, our deepest condolences to you and your family during this very difficult time. Sending our thoughts and prays.
Tom and Patty Allen
Christine, Lindsay, and Kenny Jr,
I am very sorry to hear of Ken’s passing.
A remembrance of Ken was when Douglas was a little boy, maybe 2 1/2-3 years old. Ken stopped by the house quickly before heading home to show Douglas the 18 wheeler he was driving. He let him sit in the driver’s seat and blow the horn. Douglas had a smile from ear to ear. He was so excited. I truly appreciated Ken’s thoughtfulness and kindness. It made our day!
I wish you peace. May all the wonderful memories you have together bring you comfort during this difficult time.
With sympathy,
Maria
Sorry for your loss of Ken. Our deepest sympathy to the family. Thinking and praying for you during this time.
Christine and family,
From our family to yours, please accept our deepest condolences.
I have still have fond memories of Chris, Tom and myself riding over to Palace Street on our bicycles, or meeting at the rink for a hockey tournament. Time, careers and life events can physically move us all apart, but our hearts are always connected as one big Allen family. We’re sending our thoughts and prayers to you and your family at this difficult time.
