ALLEN: Kenneth “Ken” of Exeter

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side in his 81st year, at Jessica’s House on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Beloved husband of Jean (Cochrane). Dear father of Scott (Marg) Allen of London, Barb (John) Butler of Exeter, and Mary Belle (Paul) Musson of Exeter. Cherished grampie of Geoff, Heather, Marion, Rebecca, Naomi, Kendra, Evelyn, Sarah, Kenneth “PJ”, Johnathan, and Timothy. Adored great “grampie horse” of Bert, Shannon, McKenna, Myles, Ashlynn, “Little John”, Hayzal, and Jersey. Survived by his sister Jackie Carmichel and brother Jim Allen. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents Mary and Alex McRitchie and by his sister Patricia, Ann and his brother Sandy.

Ken spent his pre-teen and teen years working in the brush, and fishing boats in Cape Breton Island. He moved to London, ON, where he met his wife of almost 58 years. He trained as an institutional chef. Ken also had a great love for music, and played guitar, mandolin, violin and fiddle. In 1979 Ken gave his life to God and studied to receive his Bachelor of Christian Education and was ordained. Ken went on to earn two Doctoral degrees in Divinity and Biblical Studies.

 Ken will be very missed by family, friends and many lives he has touched throughout the years.

Ken’s memorial service will be held at Haskett Funeral Homes, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Monday, June 2nd at 2PM with visitation one hour prior, beginning at 1PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jessica’s House would be appreciated by the family.

Beloved Family:
My deepest condolences, and I share your grief, to all the family. I have been “in” this family since I was 14 and was courted by Sandy. We were married 2 weeks after Ken and Jean, whom we stood with. I so wish I was close to hug each one and be a part of his memorial.
May God make His presence so real to each and every one of you, and surround you with ministering angels to dry your tears, and comfort your hearts.
I can just imagine Pastor Ken now playing his “heavenly fiddle” and rejoicing in His Saviour’s presence.

Jean, Scott, Barb, Mary Belle, and families;

Our sincere condolences in the loss of Ken. It was a pleasure getting to know Ken (& Jean) over the last year, as their landlord. We shared many conversations from his times living in Cape Breton to his working as a chef to his days as a Pastor and counsellor. Ken and I had some interesting political and theological discussions as well. We shared the love of music too. I was so happy my son, Spencer, had the opportunity to “jam” with Ken on a couple of occasions. Spencer on guitar and Ken on the fiddle. He will be fondly remembered by our entire family. My Mom, Marilyn Heimrich, sends her sympathy at this time as well. You all remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Rest in peace Ken.

Mark & Julie Heimrich, Sarah, Scott & Spencer & Marilyn Heimrich
