NICHOLSON, Niles Gordon of Lucan

April 20, 1938 – September 30, 2013. Niles, of Lucan has completed his cancer journey with grace and peace. His faith in God never waivered throughout his life journey and carried him peacefully home. The loving support of his wife Carol (Kilbourne), son Ryan (Jeanine), and countless family and friends have both blessed his life and helped renew his resolve day by day. Niles will be missed by the Nicholson, Green, Kilbourne and Cocquyt families and by his dear friend Ron Culbert. Cremation has taken place.

You are welcome to gather at Living Hope Church, 120 Main Street, Lucan on  Friday, October 4th at 1 pm for a time of remembrance that will take place at 1:30PM with Pastor Brad Sumner officiating.  A private family graveside service will be held when Niles will be taken to rest along side his parents Gordon (Hap) and Genevieve (Green) at St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye.

In lieu of flowers, his life long interest/career in horticulture can be remembered by planting a tree, a shrub, rose bush or spring bulbs.

Thankyou and God bless the team of caregivers at the London Regional Cancer Program, Victoria, St. Joseph’s and University Hospitals, Ilderton Medical Clinic, CCAC and VON. Special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Meridith, Dr. Brubacher, Dr Hoch, Dr Brock, Dr. Muinudden (his hero), Dr. Younis, Elly, Sam, Kim, Abby, Pauline and P.J.

Condolence from Lowell Green on September 30th, 2013 3:24 PM

Niles and I grew up more of less together for several years. I remember him best as our “turtle guy”. Every time he visited us on our little farm in Arthur he brought along several mud turtles he had “rescued” from a wandering creek that ran behind his mother’s home in Lucan. We often fished together for minnows at the famous CPR “arch”. Always happy with a smile and chuckle– rest in peace Niles. Debbie and I will plant an apple tree in our side yard in memory of those happy times with Niles and the “Green” boys.

Niles was a remarkable person. His contribution to the community was most commendable. As Principal of Biddulph Central School in the late 80″s and early 90’s, Niles generously provided decorations for the many special events held at the school. I remember vividly the special effort NIles put into the decorations for the visit of His Honour Lincoln M. Alexander, Ontario’s Lieutenant-Governor. A sincere expression of sympathy to you Carol, Ryan and Jeanine.

Niles and Gen gave me my first job, when I was just 13 yrs old. Worked in the garden centre for the summers and inside the flower shop in the off months. Learned much of what I know about plants from Niles. He always had a smile and never raised his voice. Your suffering on earth is over… keep smiling in the afterlife.
