MOUNTENAY: James of Exeter

Peacefully, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Monday, June 6, 2016, of Exeter in his 87th year.  Beloved husband of Vera (Foster) Mountenay for 64 years.  Caring father of his children Anthony and Debbie Mountenay of Edmonton, Christine and Marty Colfer of Vaughan, and Eugene Mountenay and Sylvia Wood of Parkhill. Much loved grandfather of Joe Mountenay of Dartmouth, Chris and Melissa Mountenay of Eastern Passage, Charmaine and Steve Cummings of Mesa, Craig Harrison of Calgary, Sara Colfer of Toronto, Dan Colfer of Toronto, and Scott Mountenay of London; and missed by his grand-dog and idol Wrigley.  Great-grandfather to Tennille, Levi, Haleigh, Austin, Ella, Luke, Ashly, Justin, Tyler, and Jamie.  Brother of Russell Mountenay; and brother-in-law of Jean Mountenay, Viola Gilchrist, Shirley and Mel Woodman, and Dalhsie Duquette.  He will be missed by many nieces and nephews who fondly remember him as Uncle Casey. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Amie, sisters Vylda and Ruth, brother Raymond, and in-laws Thomas and Jessie Foster, Fred, Arnold, Tom, and Eb Foster, Margaret Valiquette, Roy Gilchrist, and Joe Duquette.

Jim was born in Tillsonburg, but moved to Nova Scotia to join the Navy where he served for 26 years.  He met Vera while in the Navy and eventually settled on Ross Road in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia for many years.  They moved to Exeter in 1974.  Jim had a real love of airplanes and dining out, and he will be missed by those many airplane buddies and the frequently visited local restaurants.

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has take place.  A private family celebration of Jim’s life will be held.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kidney Foundation, or the Asthma Society would be appreciated by the family.
